Tiger Barbs And Neon Tetras?

yes, if you have the space

I suggest no less than 12 tigers and no less than 8 neons.

Tigers are agressive but will keep the agression to themselves within a decent size school. Neons are a good dither fish, they dont cause any harm or upset, but do like to be kept in a school also.

The tanks is a 125l one, would this be big enough?

Depends what else you have in it, if its unstocked then yes. I have 20 young Tigers in a 90L and they are fine, although i may move them later on when they are adults.

I wouldnt bother with neons myself, a good size school of tigers looks briliant :) I think neons are just naff. Personal choice!

I have to agree. Tiger barbs are funny little things. They are very active and will even nip you (quite safe) when you clean your tank. Neon tetras are not my cup of tea. Also they don't do well in fairly new tanks. People often say at least 6 months old tank, plus acidic water.

My tigers are in pH 7.8 water, and thriving.

Can you also mix the barbs ie have 5 green and 5 normal?

You can mix the albinos, green and normal tiger barbs together. You could keep them with neons, I have myself in the past, though in a bigger tank than yours.

They do really need slightly different conditions though. Tiger barbs like it quite bright with a paler coloured gravel, some tallish branches, broad leaved plants and plenty of open space.

Neons prefer more heavily planted tanks that are a bit overgrown, a darker substrate, with some bogwood and bunched or narrow plants that trail over the surface like cabomba or vallis or floating plants.

As both species do better in larger numbers, I'd pick one or the other and make the tank suit them rather than trying to reach a compromise.
