Hey,

My tiger barbs colours keep fading every so often. The black stripes are ususally quite dark, but they seem to go pale grey / bluey colour.

What could be causing this ?

Also have a Dwarf Gouriami who sits on his own and doesnt do much. He seems healthy enough, he eats when the food is put in, is he just a boring fish (Like many humans i know !)

Cheers

Alex

Fishes colours normally fade when they are stressed out...so seen and stressed bahavior?
Is it only one Dwarf Gourami you have? Sometimes they get bored because they have no company mabye you should buy a female dwarf gourami.

Well, ive just bought a new pump and airstne to oxygenate my water. Its pretty loud and the bubbles are big, not what id call a peacefull bubbling !!! Could that be stressing them out ?

I have 2 dwarf gouarmi's. The littler one just seems to sit in the corner and stare at me. Like i said, he just seems lazy rather then stressed.

Any clues ?

Ok...Have your Tiger Barbs experienced bubbles this big and loud before? I having a feeling it's the noise, my fish don't like it when there is lots of noise around and they tend to stress out.
With your Dwarf Gourami this is not what we call normal behaviour, are your sure he is healthy and all? Mabye it's a disease or he could be just bored like I said before. You said you have two Dwarf Gourami how is the other one?

Hey guppylover where abouts in Perth u live and what local fish shops u go to cause i live in Perth as well.

It seems that tiger barb color is something that flucuates normally depending on mood, time of day, feeding, etc. Mine often seem to fade their stripes out entirely in the night when the lights are all off, and then "turn it back on" when morning comes. I wouldn't worry about it unless there are other symptoms of a problem. And even then I'd hesitate ... when you watch your fish enough, you can ALWAYS find something to worry about!
