I have a 40 gallon tank with a silver dollar, bala shark, two giant danios and 3 tiger barbs. One of my tiger barbs keeps getting chewed on and I dont know why or who is doing it. (Im thinking maybe a giant danio). Well I thought they were picking on that tiger barb because he was weaker or sicker than the other fish (he is significantly smaller than the other tiger barbs who are fully grown now) I got back from vacation today and found my tiger barbs flesh chewed up instead of just his back fin like usual. I put him in the breeder box so maybe he can stand a chance to heal. Well I found my other barbs back fin has been chewed on as well. So I dont know who is doing it or why and thats why Im posting on here. Any insight or tips would be appreciated!

TIGER BARB CHEWED UP
ONE OF THE CULPRITS

It's more likey to be the tigers doing it to each other. They're well known for being very aggressive if not in a large enough shoal; at least 6, but more than 10 ideally.

Although giant danios can be aggressive, they're not as likely to be the culprits as the tigers. You should keep them in shoals of 5 or 6+ as well.

I ought to warn you that the bala shark also ought to be in a shoal and needs a larger tank than yours really, as they can grow to over a foot in legth.

Poor Fishy....I don't have any advice, although I have seen what a tiger barb can do to a Hi-fin white skirt Tetra, and its very similar to the damage that your poor tiger has afflicted with. My guess would be same as flutter's from experience that I had. I hope your fishy heals and gets better

Thanks to both of you! I woke up and my other tiger barb's back fin was chewed off :( So now I have both of them in the breeder box. I saw one tiger barb go after my second tiger barb that is now being chewed up and then I also saw a giant danio chewing on him! I don't know what to do! I kind of want to change to a community tank. I've had semi-aggressive fish for 5 years now and this is the first time I have ever run into this problem. Humph..
