hi i have six females and one male in my mollie tank oh and one fry survivour who is now about 3 months old, and the other night i noticed one of my females had swelled up quite alot i was so excited thinking i was going to have another batch of fry but the next day she just seemed to look very thin again i searched the tank high and low for fry but nothing anyone else ever expierienced this before or can explain it, i just find it odd, (i hadnt fed them when i noticed she was big bellied) thanks to anyone who replies :)

If she did give birth, then your mollies can eat babies extremely fast lol! But i dont think she did give birth. Can you still see a gravid spot? This may or may not help because i have balloon mollies, but I have noticed my fish being very "large" one day, and then being pretty thin the next. But i think this may be according to their eating habits. Maybe you should try feeding them more, or maybe she isnt eating all that well. I hope i helped though!

its harder to see the gravid spot in mollies, but she could of had the fry and they were eaten or they could be hiding or even in your filter, what size is the tank and are there any other fish if so how many of each?

i only have a 25lt tank until i move house next week i have bought a new tank, but dont want to stress them to much in a short space, i only have mollies in the tank, and as far as im aware she looked like she had a gravid spot but yet again im not to sure my mollies are orange with alot of black speckles its hard to see a gravid spot on some of them, do mollies eat their fry then? i dint think they did

some people say they do, i have never had a molly eat any fry whether there own or from another fish, do you have gravel in the tank, sometimes fry hide in there then get trapped and die, quite sad but nothing you can do, have you checked the filter?

I have sand in the tank and as for the filter its near the top of the tank i really cant think of anything else

I have read that pregnant mollies swell up then thin down, then swell up again during pregnancy, just keep an eye on her. Also, mollies don't have a gravid spot. And yes, they will eat their fry.
