Hi,I brought 2 new females on saturday(yesterday) and they was going in my 44g community tank.I already have a female i there.Well i thought it was female lol.The male/female that was already in the tank was flaring like a male and going mad at the floating bag with the females in it.I then released them and the male/female was going close to them and doing a s shape wilst flaring. So i put him/her in a seperate tank on her own and she/he has made me a nice nest.I think it's a pk male or hmpk female or a vt female.I cant get any photos but if anybody's got any ideas about telling the difference between male and female please let me know.

Male PK betta: See how long his ventral fins are? (The two that hang down in the front?) Females ventral fins are much shorter.

Female betta: See how short her ventral fins are? That and she'll have an egg spot also called an ovipositor. Though the best way to tell is by the ventral fins. Sometime's its very hard to see the ovipositor.

Hope this helps!!

females can blow nests and flare like males so that doesnt help, but the ventral thing is usually accurate depending on the age

Females will have shorter ventrals, slightly shorter anal fin and an ovipositor. Males will have long ventrals, slightly longer and more sloping anal fin and no ovipositor.

yep....a couple of my girls turned out to be boys...cheap buys round here,,,,, :hyper: :hyper:

Hi,he/she don't have the white chube. But when i put a mirror by the glass he/she started flaring? does this show a boy or can it still be female?
