OK, I am not the most experienced fish keeper around, by a mile, and have only just recently started breeding cichlids.

I was just wondering though, most cichlids require generally specific perameters for bredding, right?

I have seen many people complaining about spawn after spawn after spawn, until the are overcrowded, and I was just thinking, would it not help to lower the temparature by a couple of degrees to lower the chance of re-spawning?

Obviously, this would not work if the lower temperature was not acceptable for the fish...

Could this conceivably work? Would a slightly lower temperature kill the fry?

Don't think you should be looking at it like that, if you want to loose some fry, but not overly stress or kill the parents add a few natural predators. That way only the toughest survive and you dont kill the parents either.

Anyway what are you trying to breed?

some speicies dont need an exact condition. Convicts and texas cichlids dont, managuenses and dempseys sorta, but discus need it.

No, it is just a thought I had. I have no excess of fry at the moment, as all that is currently spawning is our kribs in a community tank. The survival rate it surprisingly high thus far!

I was only wondering about it as I see lots of people complaining about how their fish keep breeding and breeding until there is no room left.

I am hoping that my curviceps in one of my other tanks will be spawning soon too though :)
