Those White Worms...

These white worms are detrivores that appear when there is too much detritus(decaying food etc.) and as far as I know they're harmless, right?

They aren't very pretty; but what if one allowed them to stay in the tank? They eat the rotting leftovers of overfeeding and can also be eaten by fish(or is that bad for the fish?) so couldn't they be useful if one were to keep them?
 
In theory they could be useful, but if you maintain your tank properly they should either get eaten by the fish or starve to death.
 
Well, I wouldn't intentionally overfeed just to get the worms, but having them in the tank already isn't a bad thing at all.

I looked at one under a microscope and they have hair! It's gross :X Just a little side note I felt like sharing :)
