Good Evening everyone,

Can anyone advise to a snail eating fish that will eat till their hearts content on " Those Blighters"

I have a 4ft community tank with the usual community fish in ( guppies, mollies, platies etc and a pleco). It is now getting a big snail problem. You only see a few when the light is on but after a hour when it is off the front is covered!!!
Also have another 4ft tank with kribs, Barbs etc and a large pleco that also has them but not to the extent of the community.

Anyone have any ideas of what type of fish will do the job of clearing them that will be ok in these 2 tanks.

I don't want to use chemicals

Thanks all x

Theres not really any snail eating livebearers. I know that you could just squash them lol. The thing I did was I scraped them off the side and put them in a bucket then I just set the bucket in the pond in your park. I didn't get the bucket back but the snails were gone!

Most botia Loaches are snail eaters but you want to stick with ones that don't reach much more than 6".
This link should help you find a suitable one.

Loaches

Failing that, you could try Assasin Snails.

O yeah having great fun (not) scraping them off side and netting them to put into my pond. Real frustrating with a tank of inquisitive guppies swimming in and out of the net hahah. Don't think i could squash them though...yuk!!!

You can use a well known med used for worming discus that has the side effect of also killing snails.

PS

DONT squash them when they are in the tank - this may realease eggs - i.e. -1 snail (squished) +20 snail (babies).

Oops wrong idea! lol I think the meds would be your best choice.

No.. don't think i'll be doing the nightly squash patrol!! I,ll be having nightmares about being invaded by orphaned snails hunting out the killer of their mum and dad!!!

Great site about the loaches. Would these be ok in with the Kribs and Barbs and the communities?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Some Loaches can be a bit boisterous so not ideal with quieter community fish.
It does all depend on what type of Loach you choose.
