Hi all - when I got this pineapple sword a couple of weeks ago I was pretty certain it was a female. It shared the quarantine tank with a neon sword female and a pineapple male. I noticed than that the pineapple male didn't seem to like the pineapple female very much and was much more interested in the neon female. The male was very aggressive towards the pineapple female (and not trying to breed with her agressive) he even bit a chunk out of her tail (which is why it looks so ragged in the photo). When I took them out of quarantine and put them in with the other swords my red neon male (very much the dominate male of the tank) also took an immediate dislike to the alleged female. They were having stare downs and eventually got into some serious fighting. I finally moved the pineapple "female" into another tank along with the neon female. A couple of days later I noticed that the pineapple wasn't acting as goofy as the other female and started looking a little closer at her. Her shredded tail is healing up but I can't tell if her anal fin is now shredded, or if it's a male gonopodium. Could she be a late blooming male? (Or maybe she has a horrible personality and the other males just don't like her? I've never seen Huey my red neon swordtail not like any female.)

Here's a picture - Any help would be appreciated!

Its not so much that they turn into a male as they are male and are just slow to sexualy mature. I have many 2nd morphs also it still amazes me when they do this.
