this really gets my blood boiling just thought of it let alone seeing them for sale, dyed fish i can only think of one other thing and thats mistreated dicus/fish of any kind but this is about dyed fish

i know its a really big issue in the uk from magazines ect but never really heard or seen much of it in oz till i went to my lfs and right in front of me were dyed widdows i was fuming and even more after a staff member told me openly that they were dyed and that he sold some and then he tried to sell them to me i walked out fuming, about 3 weeks later i was telling a friend where he works at a lfs he was upset that someone could do it then he told me at the old store where he worked at had ordered some in people went to buy them he said no told them what was done to them and they were upset that someone could do that to the fish, in the end he culled then in a humane way the boss asked if they were popular and should she order more, he stood his ground and told her what he did and that it was wrong he lost his job months later for standing up for his belifes and looking after the fish they wouldnt, this shop later on lost a barramundi atleast 2ft in size and 2000 dollars worth of stock to carelessness. 2 weeks after i told him i saw another shop selling them i walked out as soon as i saw them.

i am planning on making the public aware of this and some info and guidance would be greatly appreciated once is enough and ive had enough of them getting away with it

sorry guys got confused changed to dyed only my bad :blush:

Erm....
Just to be pedantic but a helpful comment i would think;
GM fish and Dyed fish are different things altogether, althought depending on your point of view both involve similar moral issues....
:dunno:

Always has bugged me too. My LFS sells it and I've asked them to stop, they say once they sell, they won't be buying more.

Yeah genetically modified fish are a completely different thing from dyed fish, dyed fish go through a cruel and painful process while gm fish are just bred to be the way they are- IMHO not really a great deal different from how we selectively breed fish like guppys.
If my lfs started stocked GM fish, i would still go there, but if it started stocking Dyed fish, i would not.

i edited it to be dyed only got confused sorry guys typilcal aussie male on a friday morning

Not too long ago I went to this lfs that I have never been in before, their freshwater section was pretty plain. I noticed that they had an aquarium with two tinfoil barbs, they had names tattooed/ lasered on both of their sides. There was a notice on the aquariums side, it went something like this " Please pre-order one of these beautiful fish right here at the store, we will need the name. The delivery of these fish may be from two to three weeks.". They had a great saltwater section though.

wow, the name thing is horrible, and so is dying fish. but how can you tell when a fish is dyed, like i personally cant, and i know some fish just some in different colours..

My lfs is completely against dyed fish and refuses to stock them or get them in for any body wich i think its great! he has signs around the shop macking people aware of what dyed fish are all about, i have even heard people comment on how druel it is after reading about it, n obviousley not knowing about it before. i have only ever realy seen dyed fish in chain stores, where employees dont have the knowladge and passion like the rest of us.
