I have a 15g, 24" tank (standard, long). Is this ok to have a thriving planted aquarium? (Heavily planted)

-x2 Arcadia freshwater bulbs. (18", 15w)
-Small pinhead size gravel (2-2 1/2")
-no co2
-TetraPlant Crypto Plant Root Fertiliser Tablets
-Some form of water fert (suggestions)

Is this ok, any suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance, adam.

You might have some algae issues with both of those bulbs without any co2 especially if you have no fast growing stem plants. Gravel is big large, want 1-3mm size gravel. Tank is fine, you can do any size.

I think he means the gravel is 2 - 2 1/2 " deep and is the size of a pinhead. It should be fine. I would also suggest that you get a nutrafin CO2 kit. It should supply just the right amount of CO2.

Hey, sorry you've had no more replies.

If you wanted a thriving, heavily planted tank then go with one more tube 18" 15W. I can then assure you that with nutrients and CO2 and care you should have one. This is becasue someone (craynerd) on here did a similar thing and it worked out brilliantly.
It would be very good if you could get two nutrafin CO2 kits as then you could change the mixtures on different days allowing there to be a constant supply of CO2. Believe me, you wouldnt want to make a hick-up on the CO2 under that amount of lighting. You'd get algae quick.
As for a water fert Id recommend the new Tropica one. George Farmer says its the best one hes used so far. Can be bought at www.aquaessentials.co.uk

Thanks, this post has helped alot.

My internal filter has an output of 800lph, what should i do about the current? Its also quite large.

It's good to over filter a planted tank but just make sure the surface of the water isnt being agitated to much as this will drive off CO2.
If the current bothers you and the tank looks like some rapids then you could position a big pushy plant infront of the output tube or you could make yourself a DIY spray bar. Im sure the guys over at the diy section can help you out there.

Thanks for the help, i think ill try to cover it with some form of plant.

hi adam98150, I have got a tank same size as yours. Specs are quite similar to yours too and I think it is able to set up quite a good tank (I quite like it).

Here it is, my planted tank.

That tank looks great,
thats what i hope my planted tank will look like. What filter are you using?
