Has anyone else switched off there heaters on there tanks???
my tanks are all staying at a steady 30c, even the larger ones.

No I dont bother because the thermostat on the heater should automatically switch off when the water is at the right temp or higher.

dumb nuts here never considered that LOL

just glad to be saving on the electric bill LOL

No, but on the subject i did loose my oranda i think it got cooked. Good news though i have a spare 20 gallon tank now.

If folks tanks are seriously suffering from the heat, a good simple way of keeping the temp lower is to simply aim a normal fan at them, unfortunatly we in england arent used to hot weather so we dont really consider longer term measures. sorry to hear about your fancy gold fish!!!!

Almost glad its gone it killed 2 black moores 1 weather loach and 3 danios went missing im sure it eat them and they say cichlids are aggressive

who told you to put goldfish in a heated tank anyway? much less with tropical fish such as loaches, danios and CICHLIDS....

 Been smart again mamafish ! Most cold water tanks in the uk do have heaters to keep a better temp during winter, the loaches were weather loaches which are cold water and danios are quite happy at 20 deg and who said they were with cichlids if you read the posts you would have known this tank is now empty so could not have been kept with my cichlids.

That should keep you quiet

 I see where I went wrong with the cichlids but if your grammar wasn't so atrocious  and quite confusing at times :S , perhaps you would be more legible. :shout: How's that for being a smartA** ???? LMAO!!!

Here in the US it gets cold but we're smart enough not to boil goldfish B) LOLOL

it's all in fun before you get your frillies in a wad ! :hyper:

Yup same here

I've just left a fan on in my living room swinging round so it covers all the tanks, not lost any yet..... but today I've gone to work and forgotten to put it on so fingers crossed they'll be ok :/

Be just my luck to come home on my birthday (how many times do you think i can drop that in today?! ) to a load of dead fish

All my tanks are on 82F at the mo, its a bit high for the Plecs but as i live in Manchester, i know the rain and cold temps will be back soon.

Can't remember the last time any of the heater thermostats kicked in, its just the room temp is so high. One of my mates has a marine reef tank and 78F is pretty much the max before the corals start dieing off. He has to do water changes 3 times a day to keep the temp down and keep the external filters packed in ice. What a pain.

maybe it's time to invest in a chiller Ferris they can cost a lot but worth it.

Normally i'd agree but Manchester UK is renowned for its rubbish weather and these temps are a really rare thing.
