It's called Boots Household Ammonia, it's clear and I put some in a jug and swished it it didn't foam and it released a gas that went up my nose, it was like sea water kind've.

It says it is Ammonia Solution.

Is this suitable for cycling?

That's the one..........off you go and good luck :good:

Oh, and i'd give up the snorting if I were you it'll pickle you brain :S

Ok hopefully i'll be filling the tank up tomorrow once I exchange the broken heater they gave me. Also need a new thermometer since my stupidness expertise broke the one I bought.

Not a good start, eh?

To help you get the best start in a Fishless Cycle a fellow member posted THIS and pinned it, so if you have not come accross it thentake a look. All the info is there :good:

Yeah I already read through it, I wrote the main points down so I can easily read them, I have about 15+ steps on it I think so I haven't underdone it.

You'll find the boots stuff will work fine :) Its diluted and not pure. If its anything like the homebase amonia I bought it'll be 9% amonia. Smells bad, works a treat :good:

i think my ammonia was 100%, two drops raised my ammonia in a 75 gallon tank to 8.0

That will explain why I had to put over 60 drops in my 70 ltr tank to get it close to 5ppm. I was getting extremely concerned that I wasn't doing it right (I was expecting a dozen or so drops for the same result).

I've now fully cycled the tank in 3 days thank to some mature filter medium kindly donated by my lfs after I whinged at them about misadvice when I set up my tank.

That's definately the way to go if you can find a local donor!
