Thinking Of Starting A New Malawi Tank, Mainly Demasoni :)

Hmmmm...The problem with lights that you get from Home Depot and the like is that they are usually VERY yellow looking, and it can get unnatractive after a while . T5's would be really bright, probably brighter than your expecting.

I would say just get 2 T12's, 40 watts. Thats what I have on my 55 gallon, and it looks great :good:

That depends on which bulb you buy. I was really trying to save his money on the cost of the fixture. You can buy any bulbs you want. Most T12 bulbs are 40 watts for a 4 ft bulb. T5 are 32 watts at the same size.

yeah i know that the fish dont care. thanks for all the insight guys. i just really like nice looking lights :) yeah i did look at home depot the fixture for two t5s is 35 bucks, or i could bake my own ballast with sockets for about 25. ( but saving ten bucks is not really worth my unreliable DIY skills lol. and yes i know what you mean the bulbs that come with flourescents at homedepot are yellow and have a very low K degree, but the aquarium bulbs you can get for about ten bucks online. just make sure they are the right watts. the fixture at home depot is rated for 29w on each side. there are lots of bulbs that are 28 watts so those will work, and wont be yellow :). but you guys are right the brightness of two will be enough i think so i'll prob just try to do it the cheap way and make my own
