Thinking Of Going Open Top

My 260 litre planted tank is open-top.

It loses about a bucket of water per week through evaporation but i just top it up again. It has been open top for 2yrs+ now and i've had no problems whatsoever.

Where do all you people who are losing half to a bucket of water a week from your tanks think the water is going?

Its on a larger scale i will admit but i am going to have to replaster an internal wall on my house because of damp caused by the fishroom in the garage on the other side, i have about 800 gallons of water in there but all my tanks are covered and i experience very little water loss from evapouration. 5-10 litres of water is a lot of moisture inside a house

i have one open top tank (not deliberate, a cat broke the lid by jumping on it), and i find dead moths floating in my water from being attracted to the light and then hitting the water. They spread their wing scales all across the surface when they die, which presumably affects my water quality.
