Thinking About A Lighting Upgrade.......

Had a thought tho - if the lighting unit has independant switches for each lamp i could just run one tube for now untill i get Co2?
As regards to Co2 i want to get pressurized - any reccomendations?

Yeh def, that'll leave you at 1.25wpg and you'd probably be ok without CO2 in that case, but obviously the plants wont grow as well with less light and I would try and get the CO2 as soon as possible as it'll help that plants even at lower light levels

Re the CO2 glad to hear you want pressurized, its far easier and if you're anything like me (i.e. totally lazy!) you'll be wanting a upgrade the pressurized kit in a week of two anyway!

If you want a cheap kit watch eBay there are always second hand kits on sale (although not at the moment have just checked!) or you can get a new one for around 100quid.

I will email the seller now regarding the switches.

It will be a least a month before i can get Co2 but i will have plenty of questions when the time comes

I suppose the only downside to this is i will have no use for the hood that came with the tank.

As regards to planting, would it be best to wait untill everythings up and running inc Co2? I currently have nothing in there except 4 black widows who look a little lost. I am currently soaking 2 pieces of bogwwod which will be going in soon tho.

Humm tricky, if its going to be that long before you can get CO2 and also up the lighting you'll probably find that the more light demanding plants don't do very well and you may have to replace them which is a waste of money. You could add the less demanding plants I would have thought though, but then you'll be scaping the tank without everything in place which'll mean moving everything again in a few weeks which may damage the plants.

If you don't add any plants now I would keep the lighting a low as poss to help prevent the algae from getting a head start on the plants, say just one bulb for the few hours when you at home?

Can you not just carry on with what you've got until you can get both the CO2, light and plants at the same time?

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Check out the link in my sig for advice on putting one together yourself. That kit looks ok but the disposable cylinders will probably be a pain after a while and possibly also cost more. But I think this kit can be upgrade via an attachment to take refillable cylinders so worth having a look at.

It's a Rena tank.

I've thought about this but i know that if i try it i will end up ruining the whole hood

I quite like the idea of doing away with the hood - access would be a lot easier.

ahh cool. so that t5 setup i found on ebay in aus is not that expensive after all!!

i just scored a Life-Glo 2 Bulb last night and that looks a heap better than what i had in my tank.

maybe i will get the t5 kit soon!



i do need at least one more lamp in there as at the moment im still getting only .5 wpg. althought the plants i have in there are going crazy and have almost doubled in size in 2 weeks.

I got a new full Co2 system off ebay, a german seller for £68 delivered. He sells loads of them and i recieved it in 3 days. Themuleous got his Regulator off him aswell.

And did you buy this system Co2?

If so is it a good kit? Would you reccomend it and what do you do regarding re-fills etc?
