so there is this freshwater shark at my lfs i was woundering if any one had any info on him....... i cant remember the name of it  it starts with a T..... but thats all i can remember i know for someone looking into a fish i should be able to at least remember the name -_- .....but thats also why i came here so that you might be able to help with that :sly: and any other info on him would be great

thanks

Well they have ruby sharks (they have a lot of different names) another name is Red Fin Shark and Red Tip and Red Tail.

The one thing that is funny about this is, It isn't a shark its just a similarity so they call it that.

Freshwater Sharks Take a look at that and see if you find any pictures or names similar. Only name I saw on there that begins with a "T" was the Tiger Shark, surely it can't be that! And I would hope not!

well im watching it for my lfs becuase they needed to know how he does with other fish so i help them out when i can. he is in my tank right now with my chichlids hes really cool and he has a great personality and for some reason my other fish love him..... thats why i was thinking about keeping him......i need more info though seeing how i really have no idea anything about him...... but here are some pics of him.......

dont know if these help or not hope they do

Unless you want a 3 ft eating machine that also likes to jump out of your (hopefully enormous and well filtered) aquarium, don't get one.

o wow they get really big...... i dont think im going to keep him cuz i would feel too bad if i kept him and he didnt grow to be the size he should be...... its a shame he is an awsome fish....... maybe soon when i upgrade to a 100g ill think about getting him..... but for now back to the lfs well when im dont evaluating ill have to let the lfs know about these guys too..... thanks!

No problem, and for the future, not even a 100gallon tank will be enough for him... You need atleast a tank 4ft wide and 12ft long IMO as these fish are very active.

Not all 100gallon tanks are 6ft long, and ones that are 6ft long are generally 12" wide and about 18" high... Plus, even if the tank is 6ft long it's not near enough room as these fish are tank busters and have been known to break the glass of an aquarium by ramming into the sides of them... Much like Pacus...

omg they sound like great fish....... when i get my 100g and set it up they are the first thing that is going in there! thank you! :D awww that makes me soo happy..... i love active fish and they sound like a blast and they are beautiful!

I just wish fish shops would not sell these sorts of fish. Any fish with the potential to get over 2 feet long should be only obtained by the shop, when someone puts in a request. This would stop alot of problems, people who don't know about the fish and what size it can get to, will also stop the 'Oh, look at that, its so cute! I'm going to get one!' syndrome. This way only responsible fish keepers will have the fish, and getting the fish shop to order it shouldnt be a problem for anyone truely wanting that fish, and people who just walked into the shop wont be sold a fish that could get huge.
Wishful thinking eh....

Also: it seems to me like I was having a go at the thread starter, sorry if I appeard rude, but I think this problem should be solved once and for all.
