We lost one of our fish a couple of days a go to what we believe was fin rot- he had little white cotton-wooly stuff on the end of his tail, stopped eating and then died.

We cleaned the tank thoroughly (we have 3 others, separated by glass, but in the same tank). 2 seem fine but now another one is sick. I've isolated him, put him in a clean, small tank, the PH is right, temperature is fine (heating lamp), and we've put an anti-bacterial solution in his water, but he is just sitting at the bottom of the tank breathing really fast (at least it seems faster than what it was). Occassionally he'll go psycho, rush to the top of the tank and go round and round really fast with his mouth at the surface. Oh and he's not eating at all.

I don't know what more I can do- any suggestions? :(

Thanks

Right need to no size of tank in gallons or litres, how many fish and which type, water test in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph, sounds like coulmmaris to me, have you increased aeration in the issolation tank.

Um, I'm sorry I don't know the answers to all those questions! The tank has got around 700ml of water in it, the PH is around 7, and I don't know how to increase aeration.

These are my first fish -_-

Thanks for the link, although to be honest I don't know that that is what he has got- he doesn't have any stuff on his scales, he looks ok. The one who died recently has a bit of white stuff on the end of his tail.

No lesions, white stuff or anything.

It's columnaris even with the white stuff on the tail.

Whats your location as it's still bacterial.

To increase aeration which you should always do with adding a med, is to turn filter up if you can, or an air pump with an airstone attached to increase the aeration in the tank, as meds take the 02 out of the water, and you are dealing with a bacterial infection.

Ok- I don't have anything to test for ammonia, nor do I have a filter or pump. Should I make an emergency dash to the pet store?

Wilder- wasn't sure what you meant by 'what's my location...?' Do you mean what city am I in? Sydney if that's what you meant.
