Hi, I've noticed recently that I'm getting like a layer of film on the top surface of the water- it doesn't seem to matter how often I clean it appears again after around a day.

it doen't harm the fish but annoys me!!! does anyone has any ideas on how i can prevent this?

Thanx

You need more surface agitation, try a bubble stone/wall or moving an internal filter up a bit. You bascially want to break the surface of the water.

It happens to everyone if there's not enough surface movement.

:D

Could be from airbourn contaminants eg smoking or aerosols

Can also be removed by floating a piece of kitchen towel and removing (make sure there are no additives/perfumes on the towel)

And as CS says above...

www :)

What I have is one spray bar one end which breaks the water up, but at the other end I have and outlet pipe (2 filters) I didn't want to use a spray bar at the other end as it would fight against the flow of the other filter.

The film layer appears around the end without the spray bar, i'm limited to where I can put my outlet pipes. I might try the kitchen towel idea! I've been using a net but i think it upsets the fish too much.

I have a bubble stone also- which i must admit in not using that often....maybe I should.................!!!

The film appearing at the end without the spray bar shows that it wouldn't be there if that end's surface was aggitated. I would but the bubble stone down there. I leave mine on 24/7, only turning it off for feeding.

:)

i dont have a bubble stone but sometimes i turn on my option on my pump were i have a tube going out of the tank so it drags air into water flow and makes bubbles in tank, its ace, but its 2 crazye 2 leave on very often lol, my fish move the top water about enuf so its fine :)
