My Variatus babies are getting so big! They are currently living in a 20 gallon long with their mother and some Cories and Loaches, and it just struck me how big they are now! :-( About 1". They are about 2 months old now, so I'm going to have to start seperating soon. But they are getting such nice coloring...just like their daddy.

I know you guys would want pictures, so I beat you to the punch. My babies first debut! :p

"Mummy...what are you doing?"

"Seriously...what?" (Look at the fry below, he looks cross-eyed  )

I also have one that's growing up to have no black, but the body is green. I'll be interested to see how he turns out.

Edit: Just for comparison...Daddy:

Thanks willtang! I love him too, unfortunatly he has to be seperated to cut down on the breeding some. :X He is happily living with his male buddies in a 30g though.

Just for the record, Mom looks basically like that, only not quite as colorful and a little fatter.

Umm...that usually means something is wrong. -_- Either that, or they do mate, and give birth, and the fry get eaten?

Edit: Oh, by the way, Bryan...I don't think I can ship any of these to you. :( There aren't turning out to be that many. Maybe next batch?

Oh, I see. You should get more females or seperate them, though. Otherwise, he will stress the daughter out once she gets a bit bigger, trying to breed with her. :)

They really are cute and their daddy is a gorgeous fish
Do you intend keeping any of them or do you always get rid of all the fry?

Nah, I'm going to keep these little guys. Well, this batch anyway. There's only about 7, so I can handle that. I have an extra 30g that can always be set-up, should I need more room. I don't usually get rid of fry, as I try to keep my males and females seperate unless I want to breed or am ready for fry so I don't have a lot of fry to give away!

Thanks for the nice comments! :)
