My Kribs are about to try to have there first batch of fry. I had bought some plants to my tank and rearranged everything and did a 25% water change. No sooner then my hand was out of the tank I see my male go over to my female and start shimming then he goes of into a cave and she follows him. But, they are out now so I dont think anything happened yet ill keep you posted! Its only a matter of time!
My mate has Kribs and they had been doing this for about a month to 6 weeks untill they actully did it The male started to dig holes around the tank and then a day after he found a cave and moved a mound of sand infront of the doorway so the entrance was only big enought for them to get in and out sideways lol i found it very interesting to watch every time he put his hand in the tank the male wouls charge for his hand and it was at the other end of a 4ft tank but they gave up around day 3 or four and abandonded the cave
I have sand in my tank and it is ace it can look messy if you dont clean it. I like to clean my sand when doing a water change so once a week for me. I think all my fish like the sand - corys, rams and plec (plec not there any more) My mate with the kribs has sand too and i think its good for them... he said they pick up sand and spit it out in random places lol
I'd choose sand over gravel simply because gravel can get lodged in their throats. I had it happen to my first cichlid and he died because I couldn't get it out and neither could he. So please use sand.
Hugs,
P.
