good or bad?

is it a new setup?
I'm guessing yes as you have ammonia
if the tank is cycling then the results are "good"
if you have fish in there the results are "bad"

its a few weeeks old, in there are 3 guppys and 4 neon tetras.

whats good and whats bad in the results and what do i need to do to get them correct?

thanks

Oh dear.
the guppies may survive the cycling process but I highly doubt the neons will as they are a very sensative fish.
Is it possiblre that you can take all the fish back to the LFS and wait untill you tank has cycled before adding fish?

The ammonia is the bad thing, once the bacteria have converted that to nitrIte other bacteria will convert that into nitrAte. both ammonia and nitrIte are toxic to most fish. NitAte is what plants absorb thus creating the cycle and it is what we get rid of by doing partial water changes weekly.

You should check out the begginers FAQ and the FAQ in tropical chit chat. you may also wish to search this forum for cycling and reading all the results.

yes ammonia and nitrItes should always be zero.

as I said in your other post, leave the pH alone it is fine.

so how do i get the ammonia and nitrate down ?
Make sure you are not getting nitrates and nitrites confused.

Nitrites should be zero always when the tank is cycled.
