Last night I took my golden gourami out hoping to give him to a friend because he was attacking the female but I had to put him back in as he let me down. Will he settle with her and is this part of the love hate thing?
I dont want to get any more so do I have any other options? Is this normal for goldens? LFS wont take him

I'm no expert on golden gourami's, but from what i gather the males are generally agressive towards each other and other fish/spcies of gouramis, the best thing you can do to prevent this is to either to stock them in groups of 6 or more or just keep the male by itself in its own tank with compatable tank mates- adding extra planting can also help cut down on agression;

If the male is being very agressive i would separate him in his own tank- is he just being agressive to the female or to the other fish in the tank too, and if so, what?

Just to the female.

I would rehome the male or female or get one of them their own tank then, i'm not sure how many gallons your tank is though i'm terible at working out gallons, but i don't think it could handle another 4 golden gouramis and that may not even solve the agression problem 100%. Best thing is to separate them in my honest opinion :nod: .
