I was looking at my Jellybean Parrot last night and noticed a tiny little hole on her belly just under her fin. It looks like a little puncture wound. There is nothing else wrong with her and water paramaters are great. Being as she is a cichlid I'm always worried about things like hole-in-the-head but I've never heard of hole-in-the-belly! She seems happy and healthy in every other way. Any ideas?

Have their been any other symptoms ? Distended belly / strange faeces / growths etc ??

hole in the head is a misleading term
the true name of the disease is Hexamita
yes it can appear anywhere on the fish

it is caused by prolonged exposure to poor water quality
if your fish does have it try this
The fish can be treated by isolating to a separate tank and adding either Dimetridazole (5 mg/litre) or Metronidazole (7 mg/litre). In some countries (including the UK), these are only likely to be available via veterinary prescription. The treatment will probably need to be repeated a few days apart, with a 20-30% water change between each treatment. Medicated food is useful for treatment, but this can be problematic if the fish is not feeding. Direct injection near the affected area is likely to prove very effective, but should only be attempted by an appropriately qualified person. In the UK, Waterlife Octozin may also be used for HITH disease.

Now, I may be saying something really, really silly, but where exactly is the hole? Can you see it when she's swimming side to side, or is it directly underneath the fish? Is it right between the two ventral fins and the anal fin? Sometimes the anus is actually quite easy to find and looks a little like a puncture hole. It can also be visible from viewing the side, but it is mostly visible when the fish is at an incline, like when it's getting food.

Wolf's advice is awesome and I'm not saying that it couldn't be hole in the head or another disease. But I'm just wondering if it's just not the fish's anus?

Water quality is perfectly within range. No other symptoms presenting at this time. No swelling, strange feces, odd behavior, lack of appetite, no other spots, nothing. Just one tiny hole (about what a hypodermic needle would leave.) It is just below her right ventral fin. You can only see it when she turns to the left. Her anus is further back than this hole. She had babies that were removed this weekend. This did send her swimming all over the tank running from the net. It may be exactly what it looks like but she is my favorite and I would like ya'lls opinion. If there is a disease that is caused by stress even in good water or if anyone has suggestions about treating a puncture wound in a fish. Thanks so much for all of your help and for caring about my little Anna (that's the sick/hurt fishy)
