I don't want to have to buy some fish which will eat them... What do I do!???

I don't want to have hundereds of snails D:

Will a BN pleco eat them (snails are currently 3mm across, BN pleco is currently 2 inches long)?

Please help, I want to solve this before it becomes a serious problem.

Hi Jallen :)

Right now about all you can do is pick that snail out and examine your tank to see if any others came in with it. With luck, that will be the end of it.

BN plecos do not eat snails. I have several batches of young ones and am having a snail explosion in their grow out tank. :hyper:

Do they get enough food with all the snails in there as well?

crushed snails = fish food!!

I had an MTS problem which 3 botia kubotai cleared up easily... and the botia kubotai are really enjoyable fish :)

Most likely, you have more than one snail. As mentioned, remove it by hand and cross your fingers. Be sure you watch how much you feed as overfeeding is a prime cause of snail population explosions. They feed on excess food and will multiply very quickly if you overfeed.

Why are snails so harmful? I have an increasing number of very tiny ones appear in my new uncycled tank that must of come from the plants I put it.

I was quite pleased to see some aquatic life, do I really need to get shot of them?

most snails get into the tank whilst snails are a good sign as theyve survived in the tank so it shows good water they breed like there's no tomorrow we found one in our tank when we first got it which come off the plant n we got told many different things but the main one was to crush it for fish food as they multiply by laying eggs for a few days we had quite a few and now one seems to appear every now and again but best thing to do is crush it for fish food :D

They aren't really a problem at all as far as I know, just an aesthetic thing. Some people will obsess that their 'fish tank' only has 'fish' in it, and not other aquatic life. There are sometimes comments about how the snails can harbour disease, but I don't know if thats true or not.
I tried a 'solution' to rid my tank of snails but it seemed to have no effect on the snails and a big effect on my filter bacteria leading to a mini-cycle :(
Now I just leave them to it, try not to overfeed, and if I think I have too many then I wait until about an hour after lights out, then go in with my net and remove any that I can find, they'll still come back though. When you are cycling, you can just leave them, they'll breed like made likely, but they'll eat some of the algae that grows, and gives you something to watch :)

They breed like rabbits to the level of infestation.
