.....has gone really cloudy....ive done a part water change but the water is still cloudy. ive changed the filter pads and no luck. the base is fine gravel. does anyone know why? or how i sort it out?

i assume you washed the gravel until the water ran clear - then placed it in the tank?

have you any bogwood in tank and was it placed in water for several weeks to remove the tannin?

as well as things mentiond above it could also be a spike in the nitrate. unfortunatly changing the filter pads will just make it worse. you may need to do a mini cycle, changing 50% of the water on a daily basis. get yourself a test kit and do some tests. if all else fails do a bit of science. lol

my tank has been set up about 4 months now....i washed the gravel when putting it in.

ive got a test water kit and the nitrate and nitrite are both minimum

did you test for amonia?
have you checked the filter pump works? sounds daft but its happened!

usually a tank will go cloudy after a watre change it it cycles itself again. it's hapenned to me maybe twice over two years. A young tank like yours might have had it's bio filter knocked out by too fast a water change or not properly dechlorinating it before adding it to your tank. either way, change 50% daily for a few days, it should clear up by itself!

Do you have any wood in the tank. The reason i ask is that it happened to me and i found a layer of mould/slime on a piece of wood. As soon as i removed the wood and did a water change all was well again.
