The Ultimate Filter Design

Hi all ,

If you could design a canister filter with unlimited trays and media , what would you design? and in what order would the media go?

Depends on what you are trying to do, but if you have more then a few biologically active media segments, the dissolved Oxygen level will fall so low that no more ærobic bacteria can survive, so another 100 units will not achieve much. If you had an organic Carbon source in the latter stages, you could probably cultivate some anærobics, but notoriously difficult to manage.

In a wet and dry/trickle, well, after you've got enough to do the job, again, adding more will achieve nothing.

Its pretty much another tank below the main tank used for filtration. Water goes down into it, goes through the media, and gets pumped back up.

I know what a sump is but what media would you use?

Alfagrog or bio balls are the usual media to use in sumps and wet dry filters
