Well, I decided that "you can't have too much filtration", so I used UGF's in one of my 10 gallons, and in the 30 gallon (because it came with it.). They both have HOB filters, as well. So, a couple of days ago, I decided that I would unhook the UGF's, as I felt they were doing more harm than good.

Today, I'm looking at my 10 gallon that used to house my female platties (and their fry), and I saw a baby platy in the uptube of the UGF! It's a couple of months old, at least 1/2 inch (1cm) long. It's been living it's whole life under the filter plates!!! I was so shocked to see it, I can't even express.

I took off the top of the tube, so it could get out, but then it showed up in the other tube! It's obviously scared, never seen me before, so I took off the other tube top. Now, my otos are going into the tubes to clean them up. I'm worried that they will get stuck under the plates. Aargh!

So, to make a long post short, I'm never using UGF's again!!! Any thoughts??

Well some people have differant experiences with the differant types of filters and I guess that is just going to be your decission. Me personally I have never herd of UGF's or HOB before, so I guess I could care less about those types of filters seeing as I use a millenium and a whisper. They work great.

Sorry, daveo, the UGF = undergravel filter and HOB = hang on back.

I just can't believe there's a baby under there!

Yeah. The only reason I posted that was for the joke effect, and I guess I'll keep the day job after all. Are you familiar with the Barenaked Ladies?

I am familiar with the Barenaked Ladies, but haven't heard anything new from them in a while. You? (I'm tempted to add another comment, but should save that for a PM, I guess!)
