I'm still new to the hobby and i keep seeing "check for signs of stress". My question is...what are the signs of stress? Other than the fins being clamped i don't know others. This is one thing i can't seem to find on any site or in any book. i'm sorry if this topic is covered somewhere in this forum but i can't find it. :ninja: Are any signs universal or are they all somewhat unique to an individual fish? Any info or opinions are more than welcome. All things are worth knowing

It all really depends with what is happening with your fish. However some general signs of problems could be the following...

~ laying on the bottom of the tank
~ breathing quickly
~ other fish picking on the sick one
~ isolating itself from the group

Those are just a few ideas. If you think something is wrong post it on here and we'll try to help clarify if you have a problem at all.

Dont quote me on it but i think I read somewhere that losing colour/going pale is also a sign of stress. And I think some fish get stress 'lines' but I'm not sure

my friend had bettas and when they were stressed they did develope stress lines, we took photos off the fish to put on the forum and when we looked through them the lines on the fish where very clear, don't know if this just happens to bettas though or all fish

do you know where these pics are? i'd like to see them.

my fish aren't really giving me any particular signs. i just don't know what to look for but i would like to be able to spot any problems as soon as they show up.

now that i think of it. the new wild-type angel is always paler than when i got him/her. except when the lights are off, then it looks good. dark stripes etc. my ph is giving me trouble right now so that might be the reason for him being pale tho.

any other signs?
