I have an Amazon sword that has decided to turn pink on me!

Is this normal? Or is there a deficiency somewhere? Ive heard of them turning reddish, but goodness that's bright! I have a picture, well a crappy picture, of it below. I increased the bio-load about a week ago, after doing some severe pruning and finally my nitrates are going up again, back to 12.5 ppm and the small outbreak of green hair algae seems to be on the run, so Im guessing that it was the limiting factor.

Hi Carbon Dreams,

It is perfectly normal. Many of the Echinodorus varieties do this (If not all, i'm not sure). New growth is pink / red at first and when it gets bigger it will turn green. Nothing to worry about at all. You must be doing something right if you're getting new growth. Keep up the good work. :good:

BTT

Thought so, but Ive had a couple of swords in a 20gal long a few years ago and they never did that. Im glad the plant gods are smileing at me for once!

Cheers,
