This is the most belligerent of all cichlids but is incredibly rare in the hobby. In fact, there are probably no more than a handful of hobbyists in the US that currently keep this fish. They are a bit more delicate from what I've read...similar to N. haitiensis. Juveniles are rather prone to bloat but if you can get the fish to ~5" you should be fine. If these ever become available, they will probably fetch very high prices until they become established in the hobby. I believe this fish grows to about 14".
What a fish!

they cant be as agresive as ur big black sharks :p

do u have them or did u just find pics of em

those look awsome dude,

any chance of them being legal in Aus?

I would have to disagree to the Beani being the most beligerant. Yes they are terrors of the tank and almost nothing can stand up to them. I say almost nothing because the Dovii wins hands down. They are true physcopaths. I believe the stigma following Beanis' are due to the fact that they are rare and everyone wants one for that fact. Im not discounting the nature of this fish at all. They are definatly up there with the kings of cichlids.

Good post, but i dissagree, i do think there is some sort of wacked dovii out there that could take on a beani, but i would need proof of it as far as it stands now the beani is No.1

Would he stand out with a pair of full grown Convicts definding fry?

Both the Dovii and the Beani would kill the convicts. Compared to these fish convicts are like little cute kittens.

How about a full grown Fahaka Pufferfish.

A fish so aggresive that one biologist observing them in an aquarium said "I've no idea how they get close enough to breed"

my red devil killed 2 convicts that tryed to defend there fry and the beano or dovii would kill a ed devil with ease

Don't Dovii's get to about 2 ft and over? That would be an awesome sight!! How is that poor little N. Beani going to stand up to a 2 1/2 foot monster?!! Sure if they were the same size......................!!!!

size doesnt matter rvm

theyre both still mosters that could probably take the skin off you, i wonder if they sell em in aus though, i would relly wanna see one

you want to hear scary I have seen a mpg file of a beani getting picked on by the biggest N.Tetracanthus I have ever seen. but it is overall thought that the N Beani is the most agressive cichlid for its body size. even a dovii of equal body size doesn't stand a chance against one, however many poeple me included feel that the reputation of the Nandopsis Beani is highly overstated due to the small numbers in which they have been kept.
