The Living Rainforest

For those that don't know, The Living Rainforest is basically a big greenhouse, full of plants and animals found in rainforests...

I went there with my little girl, since we're trying to get her interested in animals and wildlife etc...

It's not the first time we've been there, but last time I didn't notice all the fish. they have a large "pond" mainly for birds, but I looked in and saw thousands of guppies... most seemed to be pretty young.

the other tank was the most impressive though. It was L shaped, and was supposed to be their amazon tank. wow, I didn't realise some of these were found in the amazon!

again, loads of guppies, a few motoro rays, a couple of plecs, and about 5 pacus.

unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me (it was kind of a last minute thing, shall we go out, where to?) but i did have my phone...

It's near Newbury in Berkshire.
I'll find their website or something.

Like I say it's kinda small so not good as a full day out. A few hours is about the max. But if you're in the area then it's nice or if you can combine it with something else in the area it'd be good. It's pretty expensive for a single visit too, about £8 per person. But if you can go a few times it's better value since a ticket lasts a year (not just the day)

Sounds cool, I think I've heard of it... I'd like to go there. So what type of wildlife does it have?

They have a few small monkeys (small ones like the tamarins) a few snakes and similar in vivariums so as not to scare people. In the main bit there are a fewdif birds and ducks but not many thatactually fly around a few lizards. Then there are water animals like fish rays turtles etc, and some small crocs. But there are loads of trees and plants and in some places it's pretty overgrown and you'd have to be under 2ft not to have to duck under the leaves and stuff.

Kinda shocked me when we were walking through ducking under leaves and branches and a lizard about 2ft long ran across the path in front of us. It's all very natural. But the plants are more of a display than the animals.

Would like to go there myself I volunteer at Durrell Wildlife here in Jersey, work with Tamarins/Bears/Goeldi Monkeys and Otter's...

The family they have their are also Gouldi's very cute, have had a family doing a dance around me.
