Christmas Specials are all the rage at the moment, and my LFS has 29 gallon tanks w/ hood, lights, filter, heater and coupon books for $120. After gravel and decor, this is a about $150, and the fish I'd buy for Christmas... this would replace my 20 gallon cory and livebearer tank, which I'd put my snake into as he's in a 20 high tank and really needs a long one.

My first question is, is $150 fair for a new 29G tank setup? I've never bought setups before, they've all been given to me. It comes with a Tetra Whisper filter, which I know aren't top of the line, but I use one in my 10G and it gets the job done.

My second question is, since this is mostly going to be a cory tank, is sand still the popular thing to put in tanks these days? I remember hearing alot about how it's better for cories roughly a year ago when I joined this forum, but I don't know what the current trends are.

And third, of course, what else should I stick into it? ^^ I have 12 cories, and at least 9 of them are going in to this tank (3 are in with my betta in a 10G, and I might add 3 more to that, I'm not sure yet...). I have a few misc livebearers (3 swords and 2 somethings) which will probably go into the 20 gal my snake was in. So basically: What looks good with cories? I just want to hear some stocking opinions ^^

Hey Vegan Peaches!

I couldn't tell you about the prices of tanks where you are sorry.

But regarding the sand substrate this is ideal for cories! Much better than gravel and I'm sure most people on this forum would agree with me on that!

Good luck! :)
