indeed. the ocean is a great filter as well, with the its fresh air unpolluted by the spoils of civilization providing a buffer to make air that one can actually stand to breath.
It's a nice place to go, the coast. The jagged rocks and cliffs backed by dark ominous clouds provide almost no contrast to the grey turbid water. It seems uninviting to the passerby, especially after nightfall when the air is cold and each step through sand seems as though through snow. Yet the ocean is not without a sense of irony.
