while i'm hesitant to use a 'Goldfish' bowl for anything, i think i'm finally sold on using it for the tiniest of Goldies, and now for my Bettas!

while at my LPS this weekend i saw these tiny, round undergravel filters for sale. $3.99! i asked how they worked, and the owner pointed me to a small bowl with a hardy little Comet in it. the water was crystal clear, and the little 'cartridge' was being replaced. when he took it out it was sludgy, even a voyage with a tiny gravel sucker didn't turn up any goop! these things are some heavy-duty filters!

so, i'm picking up four bowls next week; one for King, one for Pierce, one for another Betta, and one for my new Goldie until i can get him a proper home. each will be outfitted with the filter, 1.5" of gravel and two silk plants. i somehow doubt i'd even need new cartridges every week for my Bettas, and either way just crack open the old one, pull the sludgy media out and replace it with filter floss!

it's a neat little concept, and i like it =)

I think cartridges only need to be changed monthly and only if you feed the fish alot

I used to bowl my fish (goldfish) and it was good because I can move them around
then they got big and the tank was needed

How much are your bowls?
I bought mine for $9.99 (expensive!)

Yes, BettaBoyz, it does sound like a good idea. Please let us know how it works out for you.

Now all we need are teeny tiny little heaters..........

i've seen little teenie weenie heaters in walmart but who can say how well they work. i imagine since there's no real demand for mini heaters, they'll be hard to find.

9 bucks! i can get a gallon drum bowl for 4.49

and i'll let you know how it works out with the filters and bowls and such ^^ of course you know the Goldies would all be moved into a larger tank when they grow up

Hmmmm

I have seen people sell these heat stones for turtle ponds
They are really small (palm size) and are water proof

They do cost alot ($15 cdn)

So I guess a "tropical fish bowl" would cost (15+9+4+fishies) about 30-40 dollars?

Betta, tell me how much the total was
:)

well, i have yet to buy the bowl, but 4+4+5 (for the Betta!) +2 (gravel) +8 (two silk plants) is about $23! plus the heat rock (good idea!) if i can find it, yeah it's about $40!
