while i'm hesitant to use a 'Goldfish' bowl for anything, i think i'm finally sold on using it for the tiniest of Goldies, and now for my Bettas!
while at my LPS this weekend i saw these tiny, round undergravel filters for sale. $3.99! i asked how they worked, and the owner pointed me to a small bowl with a hardy little Comet in it. the water was crystal clear, and the little 'cartridge' was being replaced. when he took it out it was sludgy, even a voyage with a tiny gravel sucker didn't turn up any goop! these things are some heavy-duty filters!
so, i'm picking up four bowls next week; one for King, one for Pierce, one for another Betta, and one for my new Goldie until i can get him a proper home. each will be outfitted with the filter, 1.5" of gravel and two silk plants. i somehow doubt i'd even need new cartridges every week for my Bettas, and either way just crack open the old one, pull the sludgy media out and replace it with filter floss!
it's a neat little concept, and i like it =)
