I started my cycling process on monday with all reading of 0 . Today they are Amonia 2 Nitrite 2 and nitrite 40 (estimations)
Are these readings in line with the proper cycling process ? I was surprised to see a Nitrate reading so early. I have a 29 gallon tank and started with 4 red wag plattys . HOT Magnum Filter. Substrate is sand on top of flourite. JBJ Formmossa 2 x65 Fixture.

That's quick. Damn quick.

Comparison must be made therefore to your raw tap water - test for the same things, what do you get?

I thought the same and am furious at myself for not testing daily between mon and now to see what happened. I do have a few live plants in there too. Some Java moss a couple swords and some clover and wisteria. I will measure the tap water good idea. Also will a water softener in the house affect the ph readings ? Mine is high around 7.5 or so . The plattys seem to really enjoy it and so do the plants so far. I will be setting up the co2 this weekend. Is it advisable to wait to add the co2 till after the tank has cycled ?

Also when is it advisable to do the first water change ? I have read not until 20 days but not syre with the readings i am getting now. I will retest it again and the tap water. and post results.
