Following on from my previous post. My goldfish were scared of the aquarium light and this had been going on for about a month. To alleviate this, I decided to add some duckweed to the surface to act as a shade. It worked well, they're much happier swimming around with the light on now.

Trouble is, they've also realised the duckweed is edible. I suspected they might but was hoping to get away with it. Anyway, they're quite happy now tucking in to their floating all you can eat buffet but Im concerned now about feeding them. Goldfish dont tend to know when they've had enough to eat and just eat and eat and eat.

Should I hold off the fish food and just leave them grazing on the duckweek or just reduce the amount I give them by, say, 80% or so. I know over feeding a GF can be fatal.

GF is goldfish by the way, not my girlfriend. Though I suppose over feeding her could be fatal too.

Perhaps you can remove most of the duckweed,it grows like mad anyway,so goldy will carry on munching otherwise...

Its actually serving a useful purpose right now though in that its dampening the aquarium light and providing the fish with additonal cover to reassure them.
