The Betta Bug

Ok, I have a 75-Gallon of African Cichlids, and a 55-Gallon with baby South & Central American cichlids. And, of course, that's just not enough for me! I was thinking it'd be cute to have a small 2.5 Gallon or 5 Gallon tank sitting on my desk with a pretty Betta inside. The catch is I don't want the normal Veil Tail bettas that everyone else seems to have. What I'd like is a nice looking Crown Tail, or something that isn't your "average run of the mill Betta". Any ideas where I should start looking? I've been to Petsmart and my local LFS, but they seem to just have regular veil tails.

Check with your local IBC (International Betta Congress). You might have one nearby, since you live in a good sized city.

If your area is like mine you won't find anything but veil tails at any shops. I haven't checked petsmart yet but if they only have veiltails I'll have to stick with those since I can't really afford to spend the $20 shipping on a mail order fish (much less the fish). I might check with IBC too and see if there might be a breeder within an hours drive.

FWIW I love my veil tail betta-he has so much personality.

According to her location it says Michigan. Which really isn't that far from me depending on what part of the state she lives in.

Not too far - I'm just outside of Detroit, so it'd be a bit of a hike, but well worth it if you wanna give me your CT.
