The Best Way To Euthanize A Fish :(

I use a pint glass half full of water with about 6 chunks of ice in it. Fish generally last 3 secs at the most. I do have a book on breeding livebearers and they suggest dropping the fish into boiling water but that sounds bizarre

the best way is to put the fish in some tissue and squeeze its head and it should split and its gone instantly

who on earth would do that, thats sick.... oh i feel sick now
It's not fun, but IMO that's the most surely humane way suggested on this thread....although the wording could be better, the pinciple is there.

For small fish, the freezing can work, but I've heard so many stories of it going horribly wrong - I would never risk that on a fish.

Though a grusome subject, the way I do it is quickly net them out, put them in a bag and hit the head with a brick or stomp with my boot if theres no brick.
Completly instant, the fish is only out the water for about 3 seconds then it's totally instant.

 Ok I'm not that squeamish but that is too far. bleugh.

I think the clove oil way is the best way, not so much room for error and minimal gruesomeness.

but the thing is with clove oil and alchohols is that the fish suffer the way i do it isnt that bad. all you are doing is severing the spinal cord

Personally, I'd rather put the welfare of the fish above my dislike for 'gruesomeness'.
Even using boiling/cold water with small fish, I've a few heard horror stories of fish surviving and sometimes jumping out of the water and flapping around.
With fish bigger than tiny tetras and such, I wouldent risk using clove oil or hot/cold water - and even then I feel that destroying the brain is by far the best because it's so fast.
