The first picture in this link is bga, it usually has a bad smell also, houndour another member here has better pictures of bga she posted them in the planted section a while ago, maybe she will post one here if she sees this thread.

Cheers for the links. I have a picture of the algae that I think is BGA.

Can anyone tell me if it is or not!
Also, where can I get some Ethyromycine/Maracyn in the uk. I noticed that it cure fin rot etc, so does say, interpet fin rot treatment have it?

Can't answer the algae question, but you won't be able to get either of those meds in the uk, plus the ethyromycine would wipe the bacteria colony out, though your doctor can perscribe that antibiotic as i have taken it.

I really feel for you houndour. What are you doing to get rid of it?

Wilder, gf225 uses it as a method in a pinned thread in "Plants and Planted Tanks". But saying that I did read that you have to keep an eye on the Ammonia & Nitrite levels.

I used maracyn. It seems to have worked.

I'm currently dosing the 20 gallon. In the above post you can see the maracyn seems to have killed off the black brush algae, but the bga is still on my glosso. Due for water change tomorrow morning and have already overdosed on maracyn. I'm hoping its enough to kill all the bga in the 20 gallon, but it's not quite going the same way as the 5 gallon.

Have not had a mini cycle yet. I also have shrimp in the 20 gallon and they are fine too.

It does the job quite well. I've only had the tank 3 months, and it's running very well, so no mini cycle. I clean the tank and planted real plants in it. I am hoping the plants will help stop or slow down the algae. I see your seen my tank.
Where did you get your maracyn?
