Hello, I have a nice big 110Litre tank with; 8 Odessa Barbs, 1 goldfish, 1 Large Silver Shark, 1 large common Pleco, 2 Pearl Gourami, 2 White Widows, a Red Fin Tailed Shark, 1 Thick lipped Gourami, 1 Pearl Gourami, and a parrot fish. Someone I know was given a bit of an obsolete tank and proceeded to pile in a quite a few fish without tapsafe etc. I have taken on his 3 Clown loaches, A small Silver Shark, 2 Guppy (1M 1FM) and 2 Medium sized Angelfish. THe Guppies are happily settling into my "Guppy tank" with something around 15 - 20+ other guppies. the clown loaches have been released into the tank described above, they are hiding alot as i expected and I am trying to ensure they're getting food by feeding them just after lights out and when i first turn the lights on- any advice for these chaps would be good (I know they should be in groups of more than 5 but they arn't mine and once his tanks back up and running he can have them back!). Should I worry about the Silver shark? he's only a baby (2" - 2.5") in comparison to my Adult Shark of 7.5"?? Ultimately my concern is the Angelfish, they are medium size, but at the moment I have put them in a breeding net, this is protecting them from the aggression of the other fish, do you think I should let them out? Which is worse? the extremely small space or the over activity of the Odessa barbs and harassingly curious Parrot fish? cheers.

For the angelfish, try letting them out as being confined to such a small space can stress them out a lot. Leave them to swim around for a day and check how they settle in, but if they're getting harassed by the other fish try using a tank divider or moving them to a different tank. I wouldn't reccomend leaving them in the net for more than a few days because they'll probably get stressed and try to escape

James, your 'nice big 110l tank' sounds way overstocked pal. You should only have around 20inch of fish max in there really and your sharks alone will be about that when fully grown never mind the common pleco and clown loaches etc..I think you may have some compatability issues with tank mates there also.

you should probably go to http://www.aqadvisor.com and input you stocking / filtration etc and see what that tells you

Your tanks severely overstocked.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I would rehome the goldfish, sharks, clown loaches. The tanks way to small for them.

Not sure about the parrot fish as never kept them, so know nothing about them.

Yeah, very overstocked, let the angel fish out, they will most prob die in the breeding net from the small space.

Thank you all for your advice! Sorry I forgot that this site doesn't let you know people have responded unless you tell it to! I am, of course not intending on keeping the Angels, or the Clown Loaches, the Platy has since passed away of old age. I'm not adding new fish to the tank and will steadily dwindle their numbers to a safe level, I have seen an aquatics shop that has three silver shark of a similar size so may give him to them! I have since released my angels btw and they are doing well with the other fish, bit of a surprise to me actually as barbs are frantic little lads. Cheers!

Overstocked tanks lead to stress and desease. So decreasing your stock is a good thing.
Enjoy the hobby by stocking your tank right, and not turning into a nightmare.

Not all lfs have the knowledge, so it best to research the fish before you buy.

Good Luck.
