hi all

Tell me about texas cichlids, they have them in my lfs and i like the look of them.

How big do they grow? would they get on ok with gold severums and pleco's?

Any info would be greatly recieved.

Thanks

Tom

Texas cichlids get to around 12" and can become very aggressive depending on the temperament of the specific fish,
In a very big tank one might be ok with a Severum, but once they mature you may easily find yourself having to rehome fish for their safety

texas cichlids are very nice fish but they can reach 10 to 12 inches and can be very aggressive. tankmates should be big robust cichlids that hold their own with an agressive fish. imo your sev wouldnt really be a suitable tankmate for a texas as sevs are pretty mellow .

As said aggressive little so and so's, mine was ok with other fish until about 4", then he attacked an Oscar, he was moved to another tank with some dithers, at about 5" he tried to take them all out too, his only friend was amazingly a black ghost knife fish, but once he hit 6" he took offense to him too and hounded him daily, so at 8" I rehomed him. Generally speaking unless you have a large enough tank (which I didnt for long term happiness) and are happy to have them on their own, then its not a good idea.

Lovely fish, but not sociable.
