Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with keeping Texas. I plan to get a 75/90 gal in the near future and was going to put my Sailfin Plec in with an Oscar and a trio of as yet undecided catfish.

Having seen some Texas in my LFS, i am now considering going with one of them instead of the Oscar so any advice/compatibility issues would be great.

Also is it possible to keep a single Oscar with a Texas if i got a 125 gal instead.

thanks in advance.

I say don't mix the oscar with the Texas Chiclid

Thanks for the reply but can you elaborate? I'm guessing they probably won't mix but i'd like to know why, diet, temperament etc.

I'd also appreciate any general info if anyone has kept Texas, are they especially aggressive, sensitive to certain water parameters etc?

Thanks

"bump"

Anyone?

Sorry for the late response.

Yeah they will kill each other.

T = Texas is a loner they love being alone and so they will reach their full potential.

Nice T's have almost red in color and with Pearls everywhere.

Water ? I do 20% WC(Water Change) every other day.

Feeds ? live feeds or frozen feed in the morning and Flower Horn pellets in the afternoon....

Make their colors brighter and intense.

What color is your T ?

post up some pics.

Thanks _cRaCkEr_, very useful.

I don't have the Texas yet, my LFS had 3 in the other day, all with a blueish tint and absolutely stunning (avout 4-5 inches in size). I'd never really considered keeping them until i saw these guys in the flesh.

I guess i have to make a choice between 1 of them or an Oscar....tough 1! :-(

Oscars are so dumb they seem smart and they're not teribly nice looking fish - I'd go with the Texas.

Get the one with a lot of pearls if possible those worm like pearls.

Are there different colour morphs then?

_cRaCkEr_ you say you've seen an almost red Texas, the fish in my LFS were a lovely aqua-blue colour. I've also found on Google some rather plain looking beige pictures although still with the nice pearl effect.

Another thought, are Bala's compatibile with a Texas (or an Oscar for that matter) if the tank size is sufficient and the Bala's are a decent size to start with?

Cheers again _cRaCkEr_.
