I have just been given 2 juvenile texas cichlids, one is about 2" and the other is around 3". I currently have them in a 20 gallon tank by themselves. The bigger of the two (I suspect is a male, beginning to develop hump on forehead) is overly aggressive to the smaller one at times. 'He' would chase the smaller one until he/she will have to swim up to the top and hide near the h.o.b. filter. This was the reason why the person had given them to me in the first place, because he had them in an even smaller tank and had given up on them living together.

I was wondering if I would be able to place one of them (most likely the smaller of the two) into my 55 gallon community tank. It has 2 bolivian rams, a black ghost knife, and 3 angelfish along with some tetras and misc. fish right now. This would be a temporary placement for the fish until I can get another tank. Would he/she get along okay with the other fish or would he/she be too aggressive?

it will beat up everything in that community tank. Get another tank asap as if continued living space for the both of them is 20G, one will be dead soon, not even near enough room for both or even one of them. I believe they hae about the same requirements as jd's, roughly 45G per adult or atleast 75G for a breeding pair by themselves
