I have narrowed down my search for an external filter for my 150l tank to these two after reading consistently good things about them on here.

Tetratec EX700 - £45 delivered after 10% discount
Eheim 2213 - £45 delivered

Do these both have similar levels of fucntionality? I don't know an awful lot about external filters (hence the post) but I know some have self priming and I don't want to buy a filter only to find out it doesn't have the features I need!

I have a 2213 and although a very good filter (most people will agree, they will last forever), i dont think the flow rate will be enough, on my 80l it barely creates a visible current, so on a 150l I think it will just not be enough :)

ive got no experience with the Eheim 2213 but i do have the tetratec ex700 running in my 165l and cant fault it, it runs silent , has great flow, ive turned the flow down a little on mine. filtration is great and simple to operate !!! i would recommend a tetratec ex700 from my experience with my one.

if the tetratec it is the one i think your getting & from where i think your getting it it will come with a European plug so u will need to get a cheap £2.99 travel adaptor for it from either £ stretcher / comet / Argos / woollies somewhere like that, if it is not from the net and at a local lfs it will have a 3pin plug.

The tetratec does have self priming and comes with spraybar. and all the filetrmedia you could need.

Just to add that if you are getting it from Zooplus they will give you a free adaptor plug, but it is a little bulky and you can probably get a much smaller one here in the uk.

Thanks man. I was going to take the 2-pin plug off and replace it with a standard 3-pin anyway although an adapter would work in the interim.

I have no experience with the eheims but have a tetratec and it's ultra quiet, mine rns alongside a rena filter and the rena isn't silent. Tetratec from my experience are good.

Ive never had eheim before, so cant compare, but from what ive heard, they've got an excellent reputation. But i have got a tetratec ex1200, and like the others have said, i cant fault mine either!! Best filter ive ever had so far.

It so simple to set-up, and its practically silent. I have to touch mine every now & then to reasure myself its working lol.

Ive never had any water quality problems either. :good:

Great filter and no need to spend £2.99 on a travel adaptor. As said in the next post there is one supplied.

I spent 49p on a UK plug, used some scissors I had lying around, cut the euro plug off and wired it to a the UK plug. less bulky and much better.

Just to uphold the Eheim reputation (learned here on TFF) I will say that since my Eheim 2222 has been working I've found it to be the most amazingly quiet device I've ever encountered. Even when I wrap my hands around it to feel for vibration I can't tell its on and yet water jets are shooting out of the spraybar.

Nice to know however that Tetratec is doing such a nice job. Competition is a good thing.
