Hi,
So I have a 48l tank, would it be possible to house 6 neon tetras, 1 male Siamese fighter, and 2 Cory cats in there?

I would go with 8 neons & a fighter.

Forget the corys as they do best in a group of 6 or more.

+1: 8 neons and a Betta, no Corys

Do you think I may be able to add any thing smaller? Suggestions..?

Anything smaller? Of course ;) you can have ember tetras, ruby tetras or green rasboras instead of the neons.. but if you mean instead of Corys.. then maybe shrimp or a nerite snail, but that depends on your Betta.

Okay, thanks :) I think I'm going to get the tetras, then the fighter. I'm going to watch the betta and see how aggressive he is, then if he is calm enough, I'll get some sort of shrimp ;)

Your best bet is amano shrimp or something similar as cherries etc would just get picked off

I've had cherries breed in my betta tank! He was resting on his bogwood yesterday and I saw a baby cherry come right up to his face and touch him - he swam off :D

As always though, there are exceptions to the rule!

My betta lives in my community tank with the following dwarf gouramis, corries, amano and freshwater shrimp, green fire tetras, glowlight tetras, and he`s so nervous at the moment[,just been introduced] ,he`s hiding. He hasn`t attacked the gouramis ,they`ve been seen together more than once ,so i just think it`s up to thecharacter of the fish.

Actually, I would be more worried about the male gourami thinking the Betta is competing for the female: the slower Betta wouldn't stand a change then.. but that won't happen till breeding crosses their minds, which doesn't usually take long. It is possible for individual fish to be "ok", but I prefer to not experiment with species which are known to have a problem with each other due to their nature. A Betta and a dwarf gourami can easily kill each other in 30 minutes, and I can't guarantee that I will be there all the time to watch for a change of mind. For all we know, the Betta could be shy because it already feels intimidated by the gourami..

This is much more likely to work in a very heavily planted aquarium, of course.

Maisy the reason he is so nervous is because of the Gourami  i am 99% sure this will end badly so please have another tank on hand when it does

I had no problem with the combination, other than my tank (21L) being too small to house all the necessary amounts of each fish. I was also thinking about CRS in the Betta tank but wasn't sure if they would be eaten.
