As I have 1 live fry in my tank and have got it to the safety of a net breeder I want to take good care of it. I asked my LFS for some fry food and they gave me TetraMin baby which is like a brown powder. I didn't have any time to query their selection as they were shutting as I ran in and they have always been great to me.

Q. is how do you feed this stuff???

It is so fine that it floats on the surface in a haze and if you try to put it IN the water it goes into a blob

I've never seen the fry eat (cant find my telescope at the mo :D ) so dont know whether or not it can eat off of the surface.

Is the surface tension too strong for them or do they cope??? I just dont know.

I'd rather the little fella became fish food now than starved to death in my care :-(

I dont use any liquid fry foods, they pollute the water way to much.Just crush some flakes really fine, almost to a powder and feed that.

Yeah crush flakes.I have a baby guppie others sadly may have got eaten the first day of their life. For my baby guppie i have a little laggoon(brand name for tank) 2.5 gallons for it. :D

Hi Cavafish! I too have one lonely little fry (a molly) in a breeding net. I bought HBH Fry Bites (probably the same stuff as your TetraMin Baby, just a different name) to feed him with, on the recommendation that I get a powdered fry food.

I love the stuff and so does my little molly. All I do to feed him, is just sprinkle a little bit on the surface of the water...the surface tension seems to be no problem for him. The molly eats the food or dosen't eat it at his convenience...but he usually goes right for it. Then after about five minutes, I take out any uneaten food to keep his home as clean as I can. I feed him this way three times a day...once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once at night.

Hope this helps you out! Good luck with your fry!

thanks guys!

I've not seen my fry respond to food yet but he is only a few days old. could swear he had a real thin poop yesterday though!! :hyper:
I'm sure hes got bigger too - I'm sure willing him on. :fun:

Arashi - i feel much better about my lone fry now :D

I feed my fry on Liquifry, but i do have the power you are talking about, my fry are to young and havnt started feeding on the powder off the top yet, Only in the last day or two, theyve been starting to look more fish like, getting colour on them, and having real small tails, possibly i think that they are starting to be interested in the powdered stuff, but im still using liquifry as well.

Corrosive - so do I understand that they can be too young for the powder??? It is a platy fry. Should I get some liquifry as well????? :S

I have gold fish/koi/tench fry, not sure yet :D, personally i would see if they take the powder, if they dont defo get some liquifry or something like that, or you could just get some as a backup if needed, as its quite cheap and lasts awhile.

I don't think the powder is bad for the young ones at all. My little guy has been on powder fry food since day 3...it would have been day 1, but he was a rather unexpected surprise, and so had to eat crushed flake the first two days. :p ;)
