Hey guys, the other day i bought 4 new emperor tetras (all female) to put in my community tank, with 5 other Emperors, 4 angels and 2 blue rams. As i watched them that night i realised that two of the new tetras had white spot. the next morning, one was dead. What should i do? I don't really want to medicate the whole tank, but i have a small (10G) tank with a few platies and a gourami that i possibly could move the affected fish too. And i dont want the other fish to get it, either.
Any help appreciated, Hawkdaddy

Not sure how big/aggressive your Angels are, but you could move the gourami and platies over to the community tank if possible. Then move the sick Emperors into the 10 gal to treat. I would keep an eye on your community, just to make sure your other fish don't come up with spots. If it were me, I would probably leave the Emperors in the big tank, then treat the big tank with Ich medicine just to be on the safe side. All your fish have been exposed to it now. At least you're not putting antibiotics in there that would kill your bacteria, and you can easily remove the medicine with carbon filtration.

You need to treat the whole tank, to stop it spreading to the other fish. Pick your medication of choice, treat it fully in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. THey will probably tell you to keep treating, even after the spots have disappeared. This IS necessary.
