I have a Red eyed Tetra that is terrorizing my tank. Last night, I noticed that my angle fish was staying at the bottom of the tank in one corner, obviously hiding from killer. Anyway the angle is dead. Now what can I do with the tetra. I am thinking of putting him in a breeding enclosure in the tank and letting him cool off. Will this help with the territorial issues or will it go back to bossing every body around when put back in with the population.

Any thoughts

that is really weired
a tetra killing an angel???
tetras are an angels natural diet

I found red eyes to be a bit like tiger barbs and serpae tetra, they can be agressive to other fish but if kept in groups of 6+ they will pick at each other and leave the other kinds of fish alone. They are not the best tetra to be kept with angels as they are nippy at the best of times. If you still only have two and really like them then get them 4 friends and see how things go, alternatively trade them in at the fish store and get a more peaceful tetra. I swapped mine for rummy nose and it was the best thing i ever did.

Hope this helps

Maybe seperating may help depending on what the other occupants are. Was the tetra previous living in the tank before the angel? If so, then it probably already claimed its dominance and there for the aggression problem. Also tetras need to be in schools of 4+ imo and this will also greatly reduce aggression b/c they will just bicker amongst themselves. My school of 10 skirt(black and white)tetras only pester and chase eachother and leave the other fish completely alone.

The tetra was in the tank first and the angle was a little smaller in size but the angels partner seems to be doing fine.

Yes tetra was in the tank first, just started tank so I don't want to add anymore fish for a little while.
The other angle is doing alright but I will keep an eye on them.

thanks for the info

The problem is that you need more tetras. Almost all tetras get agressive and nippy if not kept in schools. You need a minimum of 3 and preferably 6.
