Anyone used this? I have very hard water about 16 gH, pH 8 and was wondering if it would improve conditions for my neon tetra at all, supposedly it makes them more comfortable. They seem sluggish because of the parameters being out of thier ideal range. Is there any other ways apart from RO i can soften my water and lower pH.

I've heard of peat moss in the filter, how effective is that?

Hi. To be honest, the blackwater will not have a massive long-tearm effect. In hard alkaline water, it tends to make the pH swing wildly, which is far worse than stable conditions outside the ideal range. Peat in the filter can have a benificial effect, however, it takes a while to have any effect, and will stain your water brown. Using carbon or other chemical media at the same time will make it effectively useless.

Thanks for the reply, i know it wont really change my water stats but it supposedly contains beneficial substances that fish like, would you say that is true?
